In the wake of a catastrophic 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck northwest Afghanistan, Humanity Without Borders has launched an urgent emergency appeal. This powerful earthquake, which occurred near the Iranian border, has had a profound and devastating impact on the region.
The city of Herat, along with numerous nearby villages, has been left in ruins. Hundreds of homes lie flattened, and families are trapped beneath the rubble. Tragically, the loss of life has already reached into the thousands, and the grim prospect of a death toll exceeding 2,000 looms large as rescue and relief efforts continue.
This disaster comes at a time when Afghanistan is already grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis. The nation has been beset by decades of political instability, economic challenges, and the adverse effects of climate change. More than half of Afghanistan’s population faces critical shortages of food and essential resources.
Humanity Without Borders has been a steadfast presence in Afghanistan, providing vital emergency relief and implementing transformative development projects for the most vulnerable families. Our dedicated emergency response teams are on the ground, delivering urgent medical care and assessing the most effective ways to aid survivors.
Your generosity has the power to rebuild Herat and restore hope to those in despair.
We invite you to stand with us in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan during this urgent time of need. Your donation, no matter the size, will make a significant difference in the lives of those who have lost so much.
